I obsess over expiration dates.
If it's not within the date on the packaging, I toss it out. It doesn't matter if the mold hasn't taken over yet or if it still smells normal.
It grosses me out, period (don't hate me for sounding wasteful)...
So, I was excited to find out the amount of time things stay fresh when you freeze them.
I am happy share this vital news, because, even if frozen, food does not last forever...
Bacon: 1-2 mos.
Bread: 2-3 mos.
Casseroles: 2-3 mos.
Cooked beef or pork: 2-3 mos.
Cooked poultry: 4 mos.
Cookie dough: 3 mos.
Fruit: 8-12 mos.
Frozen dinners: 3-4 mos.
Hot dogs: 1-2 mos.
Lunch meats: 1-2 mos.
Sausage: 1-2 mos.
Soups and stews: 2-3 mos.
Uncooked chicken (parts): 9 mos.
Uncooked chicken (whole): 1 year
Uncooked steaks, chops or roast: 4-12 mos.
Uncooked ground meat: 3-4 mos.
Vegetables: 8-12 mos.

Stacey!
I am the exact same way!!!
I was told that Milk is still good for a week after the sell-by date. But I always toss it on the date listed if it isn't used up yet. I don't want to chance it and get food poisoning. I've seen what that does for people. No Thank You!
Thanks for the Post! I'm gonna make sure my hubby see's it tonight when he gets home!
Your little family is sooo~ooo cute! I wish we were closer so we could get together more often. Don't know when the next time will be that I make it back out that way though.
Well we have this in common. I drive people crazy because I check the date on everything, and like you, if the date is expired, the product is tossed out.
My father's wife once forgot the milk in the car for 12 hours, and brought in it and used it. It almost made me ill. She claimed that milk couldn't go bad that fast. I'll never know because if I leave the milk in the car for 12 hours it's as good as dead.
Thanks for the info on freezing. Lots to toss out...so I better get busy.
Jan
